Komal Singh is a Sr. Product Manager in Google Research, international bestselling author of children’s STEM books, board member at Grand River Hospital Foundation, TEDx Speaker, and a ceramics artist. She thrives working at the intersection of technology, art, and social impact. As a leader in Responsible AI at Google, her teams are working on innovative approaches to design AI systems to be more equitable for all. She has also led launches of various flagship products for Google Cloud, and teams working on some of the biggest distributed systems in Google Ads Infrastructure.

Prior to Google, Komal worked in Technology & Management consulting, leading digital transformation programs for many Fortune 500 organizations. Komal holds a Bachelors’ in Computer Science from Delhi University, India, and a Masters’ in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University, Canada. She loves spending time with her two kids and being goofy with them

In this talk, Komal delves into the socio-technical aspects of AI, and how Google is building AI to be more equitable for all – ranging from designing computer vision systems to recognize all skin tones, to measuring representation at scale in mainstream media, to addressing emergent challenges in generative media for marginalized groups.
