Odessa Paloma Parker is a writer, editor, stylist, educator, and content strategist based in Toronto. She is the Contributing Art Editor at Globe Style Advisor, the subscription-based luxury publication for The Globe and Mail.Throughout her career – which has included masthead roles as Fashion News Director at FASHION Magazine and Fashion Editor at The Globe and Mail/Globe Style Advisor, Odessa has interviewed some of the most iconic names in style and the arts including Dries Van Noten, Anna Sui, Richard Quinn, Mary Katrantzou, Nicky Haslam, Imran Amed, Caroline Issa, Karla Welch, Misha Kahn and Nick Cave. Odessa is passionate about promoting local talent and businesses within the city she has called home her whole life. Over a decade ago, she founded Vintage Crawl Toronto – a city-wide shopping event, and more recently she launched the newsletter platform Opaloma, which features art-based itineraries and interviews with Canadian and international creatives.

While brands are increasing their spending on sustainable products, today’s numbers are bleak: the industry generates nearly 20 percent of global wastewater (it takes 3,781 litres of water just to produce a single pair of jeans) and 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually — more than what’s produced by all international flights and maritime shipping combined. With the boom in the production of fast fashion garments on the rise these numbers are expected to increase. But there is another way. This session explores the future of sustainable fashion and how fabrics, design and business models must shift.
